There is nothing quite so beautiful as a glamorous couple.
Seeing the cut of a well-made suit, or the look of a blue and white stripe of a man’s shirt next to an alluring woman dressed in femininity and confidence is an attractive scene. There’s a chemistry created between the two contrasting powers. It can be electric and seducing.
Old Hollywood glamour combines that shimmer of seduction with a whiff of masculinity, but the key to the attraction is the comfort those individuals exude… comfort in who they are and comfort in power they wield.
I could think of no better description of glamour… or of a well-designed room.
I want rooms to have that same power.
Shimmer. Seduction. Comfort. A touch of masculinity.
Those were the phrases that helped guide my choices in decorating our bedroom. Our homes play host to our lives, so unfortunately many times those public rooms get the most attention. I admittedly had neglected making the master bedroom a place we both wanted to retreat to.
I planned for the room to have a mix of both the masculine and feminine, with a bit of the unexpected.
I brought home SO MANY fabric samples, to which Matt sweetly replied that he liked ALL of them.I consulted my design bible, Point of View by Bunny Williams and made notes about end table and bedside lamp heights.
We fussed during the frustrations of hanging the drapes. And I cried a little when I realized a curtain rod was completely crooked.
But, it was all worth it.
Whether you are planning a party, choosing an outfit, or designing a room, take the time to think everything through. Take the time to budget for a luxury or two. And take the time to make it alluring and comfortable.
PLAN your DETAILS
After finally deciding on a fabric, I chose to have my drapes finished with a GOBLET PLEAT at the top. This touch of formality complements the more casual choice of blue and white ticking. The fabric reminds me of a man’s dress shirt, and I love the juxtaposition with the elegant, feminine curves of the goblet.
Do not be afraid of getting drapes and pillows MADE for your home. Afford yourself that touch of luxury. You will be surprised to find out that the price is not much different than ordering quality, pre-made window treatments.
I have never regretted a dime spent on custom drapes, pillows, or bedspreads. Our family has long been customers of Calico Corners in Jacksonville, Florida. Just ask for Tonya, she’s fantastic.
