Details are not just details. Details are what MAKE a design. If a room doesn’t have an interesting touch or two, it’s boring.
This week I am feeling inspired by PARKER KENNEDY LIVING, a southern design team from Atlanta that definitely believes in choosing eye-catching details. Their look is “Palm Beach Preppy” accented with pops of chinoiserie, bamboo, lacquer, and contrasting but complementary prints. They were even featured in April’s issue of Southern Living for their ability to transform furniture by painting them with a coat of lacquer.
While you might not like EVERYTHING that a certain designer does, you can still get inspiration from their rooms. For example, in these pictures I’ve learned that:
1. You CAN mix furniture finishes as long as you tie the room together with fabrics and details.
2. Contrast makes you appreciate things.
3. Don’t neglect the ceiling or the walls. Adding trim and wainscoting to your walls, or painting the ceiling a color OTHER than white, makes a room MUCH more interesting.
So, take a look around a room in your house.
Do you have contrast?
Do you have details that are interesting?
If you need inspiration, take a look through Parker Kennedy Living’s portfolio. I know I’ve been inspired and now I’m off to search the shops of St. Augustine in hopes of finding something “bamboo.” [ PKL’s Pinterest Boards]
